A federal judge who was installed on the bench by Donald Trump is now paying the ex-president back by ordering the federal government to reinstate one of his harsh anti-immigrant policies.
The “remain in Mexico” policy from Trump forced immigrants seeking asylum and protection from death or abuse to stay out of America and in possible danger.
“U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk in Amarillo, Texas, ruled late Friday that the Biden administration “failed to consider several critical factors,” including the benefits of the Remain in Mexico policy, before ending the program,” Bloomberg reported.
Kacsmaryk was put into his position as a federal judge in 2019, one of many conservative ideologues forced on to the court while Republicans led the Senate under Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
The judge was opposed by many progressives due to his background as a religious hardliner who attacked the Supreme Court for legalizing same-sex marriage.
President Joe Biden ran for election promising to undo many of Trump’s anti-immigrant policies and received a majority of the popular vote and won the electoral college after doing so, indicating most Americans support his position.
