An attempt by Trump supporters Mike Lindell (of My Pillow infamy) and Sidney Powell to evade a lawsuit about their election conspiracy theories has failed. A federal judge ruled that the case from Dominion Voting Systems against the pair and others can proceed as the company seeks damages.

“U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols ruled that there was no blanket protection on political speech and denied an argument from two of the defendants that the federal court in Washington wasn’t the proper venue for the case. “As an initial matter, there is no blanket immunity for statements that are ‘political’ in nature,” the judge wrote in the 44-page ruling,” CNBC reported.

Lindell and Powell, along with former NYC mayor and Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, forwarded the false story that Dominion flipped votes from Trump to President Joe Biden during the election.

Dominion is suing the group over damages the company says it incurred due to their serial lies.

Multiple recounts and official investigations into the 2020 election have debunked conspiracies alleging that Biden did not win. Biden won both the popular vote and the electoral college, making Trump the first one-term president in 28 years.
