DeSantis Loses Court Case Against Cruise Lines Over Vaccines

Court rules against Gov. Ron DeSantis and in favor of vaccine safety.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has lost a court battle in which he tried to prevent cruise companies from being allowed to ask for proof of vaccination before allowing passengers on board.

“Norwegian Cruise Line can require passengers show proof of a COVID-19 vaccination before boarding any of its ships in Florida, a federal judge has ruled. The decision by U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams in Miami to grant Norwegian’s request for a preliminary injunction comes despite a state law passed in May that fines businesses which require proof of such vaccinations,” NPR reported.

DeSantis has emerged as the most prominent Republican opposing vaccine safety efforts. He has consistently attacked vaccine passports and masking, including regulations designed to protect schoolchildren from the Delta variant of COVID-19.

By contrast, President Joe Biden has called for anti-science officials like DeSantis to get out of the way of work designed to protect more Americans from the virus.
