A shocking new poll shows Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis could lose his bid for reelection in the state in 2022.

“U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist narrowly leads Gov. Ron DeSantis in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup, according to the latest survey from St. Pete Polls,” Florida Politics reports.

DeSantis has been governing and campaigning with the 2024 presidential election in mind, and some observers believe he has been operating on the assumption that he would easily be reelected.

DeSantis has been promoting several hot button conservative issues, including banning transgender teens from sports and working to counteract COVID-19 safety regulations.

In recent days, infections from COVID-19 have surged in Florida and DeSantis has responded by blaming the media and campaigning against Dr. Anthony Fauci.

The poll showing unexpected strength for Rep. Charlie Crist, who previously served as governor, could throw a wrench in DeSantis’ plans for higher office.
