President Joe Biden has extended the moratorium on evictions, saving millions of families that could have faced harsh conditions otherwise.
“The Biden administration will put in place a new eviction moratorium that would protect areas where 90% of the U.S. population lives, a turnaround after progressive lawmakers pushed the White House to do more to prevent some 3.6 million Americans from losing their homes during the COVID-19 crisis,” the Associated Press reported.
Progressives in Congress had pushed for an extension to the moratorium, indicating the struggles faced by working families who are still dealing with the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rep. Cori Bush (R-MO) was key in highlighting the issue, staging a protest by camping out on the steps of the US Capitol and urging for something to be done about the situation.
President Biden was hailed for the decision with many pointing out how much of a relief his action would be to many.
