Dealmaker Joe! Biden Makes Infrastructure Agreement Trump Couldn’t

Biden is turning out to be the dealmaker Trump said he was, but wasn’t.

President Joe Biden in his first year in office is emerging as a bipartisan dealmaker, living up to the hype that Donald Trump made for himself but could never deliver on.

In his four years in office, Trump repeatedly claimed that he “makes deals” but could never demonstrate the skill necessary to get Republicans and Democrats to the negotiating table to agree on anything. Instead Trump pursued the GOP’s right-wing agenda and voters punished him for it in both the midterms and in the 2020 presidential election.

Biden is already ahead of Trump on infrastructure, with the Senate agreeing on a bipartisan basis to move forward on a deal that would pump billions into construction projects across the country.

“In a June 8 phone call, Biden told Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA.) that he wanted a public works agreement with Republicans in the neighborhood of $600 billion. More notably, Biden showed deep interest in provisions on energy resiliency that Cassidy had been working on for weeks. That embrace of a favored provision hit home with Cassidy,” the Washington Post reported.

While the infrastructure deal has some ways to go before it becomes law, Biden’s success is a fulfillment of his campaign promises about being a bipartisan uniter. And it again shows that Trump failed at what he boasted to be the best at.
