Fox News Complains AOC Has Security After Attacking Her For Years
Fox News is obsessed with AOC and now complains that she has private security.
The right-wing Fox News Channel is now complaining that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has contracted private security to protect her, despite years of the network attacking her and attracting the attention of unhinged, armed conservatives.
In a hit piece amplified by the New York Post (which is also owned by Rupert Murdoch), Fox whines that “Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez paid thousands for personal security.” Fox presented as an outrage to its readers the fact that there was $34,000 “spent on private security and consultants in the first half of 2021” by the congresswoman.
But what Fox omitted is that its own coverage has painted a target on Ocasio-Cortez in retaliation for her becoming one of the most outspoken voices in favor of progressive policies in recent years.
A 2019 study from media watchdog Media Matters for America documented what the non-profit described as Fox News’ “obsession” with AOC: “In the six weeks from February 25 and April 7, her name was mentioned 3,181 times on Fox News and Fox Business; not a day went by in that time frame that she wasn’t discussed on the networks. ”
That intense focus has a dangerous effect.
In April, Brendan Hunt was convicted of threatening to assault and murder members of Congress, including Ocasio-Cortez. Hunt made videos alleging that the 2020 election was rigged, and that led to his calls for violence.
For years Fox News has targeted individuals on air and seen it result in violent crime. Former host and serial sexual assaulter Bill O’Reilly described Dr. George Tiller, who provided abortions, as “Tiller the Baby Killer.” After that, Tiller was assassinated in his church.
