Khizr Khan, the father of an Iraq War veteran killed in the line of duty and who was then mercilessly attacked by Donald Trump, was appointed to a federal commission by President Joe Biden.
“President Joe Biden announced Friday plans to nominate Khizr Khan, who famously criticized Donald Trump for his disparaging remarks on Muslim-Americans during the 2016 Democratic National Convention, to a post with the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom,” Politico reported.
After Khan and his wife Ghazala appeared in 2016, Trump made up lies about the couple based on their Muslim faith. Trump himself claimed Ghazala Khan did not speak at the Democratic Convention due to her faith, and his campaign falsely claimed that their son – Humayun Khan – died on President Barack Obama’s watch, when in fact he was killed in 2004 when George W. Bush was president.
The episode highlighted the hostility of Trump and others in his party to Muslims, a policy which was then emphasized by the ban on Muslim travel his administration put into practice.
