Study Reveals: Trump Endorsement Helps Democratic Candidates

Study shows when Trump interferes in elections it helps Democrats.

A new study reveals that an endorsement from Donald Trump may actually backfire and give a boost to Democrats.

Researchers Andrew Ballard, Hans Hassell, and Michael Heseltine released the details of their study showing the data behinds signs of an anti-Trump backlash.

“Our newly-published research on the 2018 midterm elections suggests that receiving the public backing of Trump may ultimately harm candidates in close races – so Republican candidates looking for electoral success may want to think carefully before welcoming Trump’s endorsement,” the researchers detail.

“Democrats were quick to link their Republican opponents to the unpopular president, and many used the president’s endorsements in their own fundraising efforts. Subsequently, Democratic opponents of endorsed Republicans raised more money from more donors immediately following the president’s endorsement of the Republican candidate.”

The researchers note that Trump’s ego plays a role in hurting his chosen candidates, noting that former presidents like Barack Obama did not throw their weight around in smaller elections the way that Trump did. Trump’s decision to weigh in, which has fueled his habit of praising his supposed political acumen, actually hurts instead of helping.

Democrats hoping to hold on to control of the House, Senate, and several governorships soon to be up for grabs may now hope to have Trump in town to help them win.

Already, Trump’s affiliation is proving to be a negative attack line for Democrats. In Virginia, gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe has been quick to invoke Trump’s support of his Republican rival, Glenn Youngkin. Polling has shown McAuliffe already leading in the polls.
