Pelosi Defies GOP, Plans To Add Republican To Insurrection Commission
Republicans reel as Pelosi adds members to insurrection commission.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi is ignoring House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s demands and will reportedly be adding a Republican to the commission investigating the January 6 Capitol attack.
“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said it’s her ‘plan’ to appoint GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger to the House select committee to investigate January 6, just days after the GOP walked out on the panel. ‘That would be my plan,’ she said when asked by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos if she wanted to add him. CNN reported last week that Pelosi was eyeing Kinzinger to bolster the panel,” CNN reported.
Kinzinger’s addition would likely give the committee more credibility, as he has repeatedly spoken out against fascist words and actions from Donald Trump. Unlike other Republicans, the Illinois Republican would not be likely to whitewash a report of events in Trump’s favor.
The same is possibly true of Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) who will also serve on the committee at Pelosi’s request.
Republicans in the House and Senate voted against a bipartisan committee to investigate the attack incited by Trump. House Republicans also left the committee after Pelosi said two members who had backed election lies and challenges in favor of Trump would not be seated on the panel.
