GOP Votes In Favor Of Bridge Collapses

Republicans back bridge collapses in shocking vote.

Republicans voted to let bridges and other vital infrastructure collapse in a strange vote in the Senate on Wednesday.

Rather than fund repair and construction projects from coast to coast, Senate Republicans voted “no” and would not allow the issue to come to a full vote.

“The failed vote underscored the intense mistrust between the two parties, which has complicated the effort to complete a deal. Both Republicans and Democrats in the group seeking a deal say they are still making progress toward agreement on a package with nearly $600 billion in new funds for roads, bridges, rail, transit and other infrastructure, which could be the first major infusion of federal public works spending since the 2009 stimulus law,” the New York Times reported.

The party has sought to deny Biden another major legislative win after the passage of the popular American Rescue Plan, which has provided stimulus funding for individuals and extra payments for families with children.

Democrats have said that they are simultaneously pursuing an infrastructure bill that will pass via reconciliation, which requires only 51 votes for passage. If that bill passes, it would be yet another landmark piece of legislation affecting the lives of millions that made its way into the public without GOP support.
