The Biden administration is not backing down to criticism from the NRA and is going forward with a campaign to fight gun crime.

Led by Attorney General Merrick Garland, the Department of Justice is now going on a multi-state campaign against deadly weapons.

“Attorney General Merrick Garland will launch the gun trafficking strike forces in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.,” NBC News reports. “The effort will include stepped-up enforcement in so-called supply areas — cities and states where it’s easier to obtain firearms that are later trafficked into other cities with more restrictive gun laws.”

Extremists at organizations like the NRA have frequently pushed back against federal efforts to fight gun crime, arguing that such campaigns affect gun rights. But citizens have been crying out for years across party lines for more to be done about gun-based crimes, especially homicides.

The new effort from the Biden team defies NRA wishes and shows that the gun lobby continues to lose influence in Washington.
