Republicans are being slammed for using a nickname for Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg that could be seen as antisemitic.

The Anti-Defamation League is warning that usage of the term “Zuckerbucks” suggests “rich Jews are controlling levers of power.”

“The Zuckerbucks term has been circulating since last year, when the Facebook founder and his wife, Priscilla Chan, steered $400 million through the nonpartisan Center for Technology and Civic Life to assist local election offices ahead of the November vote,” the Times of Israel reports. Conservative thinktanks have used the loaded term, as have Republican politicians.

ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt wrote in a letter to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA): “Those who use the term ‘Zuckerbucks,’ particularly members of Congress, are dangerously enabling this antisemitic trope, and we urge these policymakers to stop using this term immediately.”

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) has used the terminology.

At a news conference in July, Boebert said, “Zuckerbucks are screwing with our elections by funneling private dollars in a partisan way to government agencies.”
