Biden Praises Pro-Democracy Protesters In Cuba

President Joe Biden is hailing and praising the pro-democracy protesters who have flooded the streets of Cuba and who are opposing the island nation’s communist government.

“We stand with the Cuban people and their clarion call for freedom and relief from the tragic grip of the pandemic and from the decades of repression and economic suffering to which they have been subjected by Cuba’s authoritarian regime,” Biden said in a press release. “The Cuban people are bravely asserting fundamental and universal rights.”

Biden went on to say, “Those rights, including the right of peaceful protest and the right to freely determine their own future, must be respected. The United States calls on the Cuban regime to hear their people and serve their needs at this vital moment rather than enriching themselves.”

The unprecedented protests have rocked Cuba, which has lived for over 70 years under communist rule.

Some have speculated that the protests could finally lead to the communist dictatorship that runs the nation collapsing, but it remains to be seen.
