Fox News host Tucker Carlson couldn’t pronounce the well-known name of Canada’s capital.
In a clip that went viral on Friday night, Carlson pronounces the word “Ottawa” as “Ot-tow-ah.”
The word “Ottawa” is widely known and easily pronounced by many school-aged children.
The viral clip of Carlson’s slip-up was seen by over 1.3 million people, generating embarrassment that may be difficult for the prominent conservative to live down.
Carlson’s gaffe came on the same episode in which he interviewed Donald Trump, for his first on-air interview since contracting COVID-19.
I have never heard anyone mispronounce “Ottawa” the way @TuckerCarlson does here. Very odd. pic.twitter.com/8nHEqEJsJk

Reaction to Tucker Carlson’s gaffe:
"Ottawa" is an Algonquin word, and the emphasis is supposed to be on the second syllable, so he's actually pronouncing it properly. I'd never defend this dude otherwise, but if you're making fun of him, the joke's on you for ignoring and erasing Indigenous language and history. https://t.co/6eskCFjHFp

It’s pronounced Ah-Tah-Wah @TuckerCarlson you ignoramus. Better yet, how about you leave Canada out of your insufferable mouth. (I hear it’s best used suckling at @realDonaldTrump’s teat anyway.) https://t.co/ky6WzmEw0D
