Donald Trump claims in a newly released recording that he “listens better” to Black Americans than leaders of Black organizations.
“I listen better to the African-American people than anybody else. Anybody else in this room,” Trump told a group of civil rights leaders who met with him just days before his inauguration, The Independent reports.
In attendance at the event were Martin Luther King III, William Wachtel, and Riverside Church pastor Dr Rev James Forbes.
Trump’s presidency has been marked by a series of racist and bigoted comments, including his praise for neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Trump has also attacked many leading Black leaders from his position, including civil rights legend John Lewis, who recently passed away.
Minority voters have consistently, overwhelmingly opposed Trump and a recent poll showed that 90% of Black voters intend to support Joe Biden while Trump’s support was about 6%.
