The Centers for Disease Control says virus infections have increased in children. Republicans, led by Donald Trump, are pushing for schools to reopen anyway.

“According to the CDC, the infection rate in children 17 and under increased ‘steadily’ from March to July,” the Washington Post reported. “While the virus is far more prevalent and severe among adults, the true incidence of infection in American children remains unknown because of a lack of widespread testing, the agency said.”

While children are less likely to die from COVID-19, some still have. There are also long-term effects of COVID-19 like heart and lung damage.

Children can also pass COVID-19 to school officials, teachers, and take it home to their families, friends and other loved ones.
