Alexander Acosta – Second Labor Department Nominee
Alexander Acosta was announced on February 16 2017 as Donald Trump’s second nominee to be Secretary of Labor. He is Dean of the Florida International University (FIU) College of Law. He is of Cuban descent and was raised in Miami, Florida and is married to Jan Elizabeth Acosta.
Acosta served as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida from 2006 to 2009 and was a clerk for conservative Supreme Court justice Samuel Alito.
Andrew Puzder – First Labor Department Nominee
Puzder’s ex-wife Lisa Fierstein accused him of domestic abuse during their divorce, and appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show to discuss it.
Puzder hired an undocumented worker.
On February 13 2017, CNN reported that 4 Republican Senators were withholding support for Puzder, which would stop his nomination. Puzder withdrew his nomination on February 15, 2017
